Lecture Title: Project Clean Sky

Sebastien Dubois  has more than 20 years of experience in Aeronautics spent in both public and private sector.
He started his career at Thales Group in 1997 and spent 13 years within this group, dealing with embedded electronic systems and avionics systems for both civil and military applications. He occupied positions of program manager on the Mirage 2000-5 or Airbus A350 XWB. After several years spent on commercial programs, he took the position of Head of Research and Innovation   within Thales Avionics in charge of the preparation of the product policy strategy for the next civil Aircraft generation.
In 2010, he joined the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking as Project Officer in charge of the Helicopter domain and contributed to the successful achievements of rotorcraft activities in Clean Sky 1.
He contributed to the preparation and the launch of the Clean Sky 2 programme and was appointed in 2014 project officer of the Large Passenger Aircraft domain.
In May 2019, he was appointed Head of the Clean Sky 2 programme, in charge of the overall coordination of the progamme and the delivery of results by end 2024.
Sebastien DUBOIS holds a Master of Science in Electronics granted in 1996 from Ecole Centrale Marseille in France. 


Axel Krein
Since February 2019, Axel Krein is the Executive Director of Clean Sky, the European Public-Private Partnership developing innovative, cutting-edge technology aimed at reducing CO 2 and NOx gas emissions and noise levels produced by aircraft.
Prior to Clean Sky, Axel held various positions in Airbus, including Senior Vice President Cyber Security Program (2014 - 2019); Senior Vice President Research & Technology (2007 - 2014); Senior Vice President Strategic Development (2004- 2007); and Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (2000 - 2004). Axel holds a Masters in Aerospace Engineering from the Technical University of Aachen, Germany.


Ron van Manen (Delft University of Technology Aerospace Engineering – 1987) started his career in the airline industry, fulfilling several management positions at British Airways and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. In 1998 was appointed Vice President Business Development at KLM Engineering and Maintenance, co-leading this €1bn+ per annum MRO division as chief commercial officer, and leading a major program investigating a spin-off and joint-venture between the airline and a major OEM related to all MRO operations.

In 2003 he joined QinetiQ in the UK as VP Civil Aeronautics, directing its contract research and development projects with industry, UK Government and EU. In 2008 he was appointed Managing Director of the Aerospace Consulting business, directing all of QinetiQ contract research and engineering services for the UK Government and Aerospace clients such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Goodrich, Rolls-Royce as well as clients such as NATS, Eurocontrol, BAA, British Airways, Virgin Group, the CAA and the AAIB.
In 2011 he joined the Clean Sky Joint Undertaking. In 2014 he was appointed Programme Manager for the Clean Sky 2 Programme under Horizon 2020.
From 1 September 2019 he has assumed the post of Head of Strategic Development in the JU, concentrating on the preparations of a continued partnership under Horizon Europe and the research linked to the European Green Deal and EU’s Climate Neutrality goals.
